DESCRIBING A PICTURE - USING A CALENDAR

TEACHER'S CORNER:

As the idea behind this blog is simplicity,
today I want to highlight its 3R side (Recycle - Reduce - Reuse).

The year is coming to an end so you'll probably take down all the calendars and head for the trash bin to throw them away. But STOP!

Have a look at them and think if the pictures aren't worth saving for the classroom use.
Why is it worth doing it?

1. Calendars are often made of a high-quality material so they are durable.
RECYCLE what you have. Save your money and the environment.
2. You don't have to print out the copies for every single class.
REDUCE the amount of waste and your work.
3. For they are durable, they are also reusable.
Do once - REUSE often. Save your precious time.

4. The pictures in calendars often have a common theme. What you get is 12 ready to use pictures.
5. They give you a chance to surprise your students and set textbooks aside for a while.

But WAIT A SECOND! What should I use a calendar for during my class?!

STUDENT'S CORNER

The pictures from the calendar are a brilliant source for speaking practice.
It often happens, though, that you are given a picture and you don't know what to say.

Always remember to use the phrase:

---------------------------------------

IN THE PICTURE
I can see ...

---------------------------------------

And an easy way to get yourself talking is to keep these question words in mind and try to add some details to your answers.

----------------------------------------

1. WHO
2. WHAT
3. WHEN
4. WHERE
5. WHY

-----------------------------------------

Not to be groundless, I'm attaching a photo.

IN THE PHOTO - 13 pictures from the calendar with the reproductions of the paintings by Olga Boznańska.

AN ORGANIZER AND A BUNCH OF USEFUL TOOLS

Do you know this feeling of excitement when
you find something great in the abyss of the Internet and
you add a bookmark and after a while
you find another great thing and
you add yet another bookmark
and after such a few sprees
you have a long chaotic list of bookmarks.

Sure, there is a simple solution or even two.
You can always use the search box to find the bookmark you need.
Or you can create folders to sort them.

From today on, you can add one more fix to this repertoire.

Instead of folders, you can add webmixes.
Instead of bookmarks, you can add tiles.

Why bother and change anything?

For me,
More attractive interface - than the one in my browser.
Easier access - one click and you're on the website you want.
Plenty of ways to use it - for you to discover yourselves ☺.

What's the whole fuss about?

It's ⏩ SYMBALOO

As a bonus, this link will take you to my webmix with a bunch of other useful tools which have the power to perk up your classes.

P.S.
If you're confused about how to start using it, watch some video tutorials on youtube, e.g. this one.
If you need more inspiration on how to use it as an edu-tool e.g. click here.

ADJECTIVES IN ORDER

Today, it's time to boost the brain.

What you can see below is a handy mnemonic device which helps to retrieve the order of adjectives which we use to describe a thing or a person.

Of course, it rarely happens that we use all the categories to describe an object or a person at a time but I won't leave you without an example.

A Lovely Teeny-weeny Ancient Square Sunglow American Gold

pendant was found in the wreck of Titanic.

TIME-COUNTERS

Hi there!

Do you use timers in any form during your classes? A sandglass? Your mobile?

If not, I recommend them to spice up your lesson.
There's always this thrill of novelty and an element of interest for students.
It's also a nice tool for a teacher to control the time of an activity.

As for the sandglass, it should be placed somewhere within the sight.
As for the mobile timer, one of the students can be chosen to be responsible for controlling the time. Its advantage is that it usually produces a sound when the countdown ends.

Yet, there is one more option. An ONLINE TIMER. You can find your favourite one. There are plenty of them on the Net.
If you want to save time, you can visit

and choose one which suits your needs best.
The advantage of these is that you can project them on the wall so that everybody can see it.
Visualisation is a great thing, after all.

Confusing Things About British Homes - VideoNot.es

Hi there!

I have another great edu-tool to share with you.

Its name is

⏭  VideoNot.es

and it's synchronised with Google Drive. So in order to use it, you have to have a Google account.

I'm not going to explain here how to create a video note because some people have already done the job on YouTube. Just search for "videonot.es tutorial" there or check this video tutorial >> VideoNot.es - Tutorial << and all will be plain sailing to you.

What I want to do in this post is make you aware of the existence of VideoNot.es (which, I think, I have achieved so far ☺) and share the video note I created. It's waiting for you right here:

If something didn't work out with the link - don't wait to tell me about it.
And just in case this is the video:

and these are the questions to the video:
